Cursor
Development
Cursor is one of the AI editors our engineers work in daily, alongside Claude Code. It indexes the whole repository, writes against a spec we wrote first, and a senior engineer reviews every change before it reaches your main branch.
Talk to experts nowWhy we work in Cursor
It indexes the whole repository
Suggestions come from your codebase, its conventions and its history. That matters most in inherited code.
Throughput, not autopilot
The boring half of a task goes faster: boilerplate, migrations, tests, repetitive refactors. The decisions stay with the engineer who answers for them.
Spec first, then code
We write down what we are building before anything is generated. The spec is what makes AI output reviewable: it is the thing every result gets checked against.
Every change is reviewed
A senior engineer reviews every change, whoever or whatever wrote the first draft. Architecture, security, and anything touching money stay with the engineer who answers for them.
Who builds with Cursor
Engineering teams that name Cursor as their editor on its own customers page.
Where an AI editor actually helps
The tasks where it buys real time, and where we keep it on a short leash. Each one starts from a written spec, the loop we describe in spec-driven development.
- Inherited codebasesReading an unfamiliar repository, mapping how it fits together, and finding the parts that carry the risk, before anything gets changed.
- Repetitive refactorsRenames, migrations, and the same change across a hundred files: mechanical work where a human is slow and a reviewer is fast.
- Tests and fixturesEdge cases and fixtures get written alongside the code, and tests check the real contract. Where a frontend reads an API we prefer a runtime contract: responses validated against a Zod schema, with the UI types derived from it, so a mismatch with the real payload fails loudly.
- Reviewing a pull requestA first pass that catches the obvious before a senior engineer spends attention on the parts that actually need judgment.
- Where we keep it shortArchitecture, security boundaries, data models, and anything touching money or patient data: AI may draft, and a senior engineer decides and signs off.

Questions
What is Cursor development?
Building software in Cursor, an AI code editor that indexes your repository so its suggestions and agent edits follow your own code. On our projects it runs inside a fixed loop: a written spec first, AI-assisted implementation against it, and senior review on every change before it merges.
Cursor or Claude Code, which do you use?
Both, side by side. Cursor is where our engineers edit and review inside the repository, Claude Code takes longer agentic tasks against a written spec, and some projects add Codex. Yevhen Omelianenko, one of our senior engineers, works in Claude Code daily. Whichever tool drafts a change, the spec and the senior review stay the same.
Is our code sent to a model?
Cursor's Privacy Mode keeps your code out of model training under zero-retention agreements with its model providers.
Who is responsible for AI-written code?
We are. Accountability stays with us whoever typed the first draft: every change passes senior review and our tests before it lands.
How do you review AI-written code?
Against the spec it was written for. A model does a first pass for the obvious problems, then a senior engineer reviews correctness, security, and the parts that need judgment. For NestJS work the standards are published in our Nest.js Manifesto, with a drop-in kit for Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex.
Does it make delivery cheaper or just faster?
It raises throughput, so the same team ships more in the same time. Seniority is still the expensive part: the review, the architecture, and the decisions stay human.
What is AI-assisted development?
AI-assisted development builds the delivery loop around AI tools, from the written spec to review, so the shape of the work changes as well as its speed. The table above compares AI-native, AI-powered and manual delivery.
Do you use it on every project?
Most of what we ship is now written with AI in the loop, at different depths, and every change still passes senior review before it merges.
Can you work in our tooling instead?
Yes. We embed in your process, your repository, and your review rules. The editor is our preference, and your process comes first.
How do you engage?
Three ways: one dedicated senior engineer, a cross-functional pod, or a scoped fixed-plan project. We scope the work on a short call and start once the plan is agreed.
